Tips for Celebrating Pride Month Alcohol-Free

Tips for Celebrating Pride Month Alcohol-Free

Happy Pride Month, spoonlickers! At Doughp, we’re always celebrating self-love. But this month especially, we’re celebrating ALL love, and doing so with pride. Whether you're going to a picnic, party, or parade, Pride Month is all about celebrating and embracing who you are, and who you love, including yourself!

We understand that oftentimes when there’s a celebration, there will also be alcohol. Not always, buttt there definitely is the possibility of running into alcohol while at a Pride event. That's where we’re here to help! Let’s take a look at some tips and tricks to celebrate Pride Month HARDCORE (without any of the HARD stuff, of course).

Find your people.

In the LGBTQIA+ community especially, it’s important to find sober allies that are more than willing to support you in all of the ways you need. After all, that's what a community is for! There are many different ways to find support within this community. One of our personal favorites is joining Monument’s free, therapist-moderated LGBTQIA+ support group. Whether you’re connecting with a group, or plugging in your headphones and listening to Monument’s A Sober Girls Guide podcast, you’re sure to find the support you need!

Not into digital connections? You can also attend the 1000 Hours Dry weekly meetings for all LGBTQIA+ people! Lastly, you can find any local queer and sober events in your area with a quick search online. We know there is a huge community of LGBTQIA+ people and allies that are more than willing to take you in and give you all the love you need!

Cultivate inner-pride.

Cultivate Inner Pride - what does this mean you might ask? Well, it can mean anything you want it to! But, if you're not sure where to start, we can help. One way to cultivate inner-pride is to get a journal and for every day of Pride Month, use the prompt, “I am proud of myself for…”. This practice will surely boost your inner-pride, strength, self-love and self-gratitude.

Get out there.

“Getting out there” could mean many things to each of you. It could mean trying to meet new friends, trying to meet a special someone, or even exploring and going on adventures. We're living through a renaissance of queer dating apps like Lex, Her, Grindr, Bumble, Tinder, and more! If you plan a first date with someone, we have a few ideas for the first date! Take them on a picnic and grab some sparkling apple cider, or some alcohol-free wine, and don't forget to pack your favorite Doughp flavor, of course!

Discover LGBTQIA+ history and stories.

The library (or your Kindle) is open for summer! Look up some books about pride! Find your favorite LGBTQIA+ writer or actors and check your local library for suggestions from these authors! If you aren’t comfortable going in person, check out these online resources for more information and recommendations about queer authors!

Celebrate in your own style.

After all, this is what Pride month is all about! Embrace where you’re at along your journey of being your true self and choosing sobriety. No matter where you are, you have come a long way and we could not be more proud of you! We know all too well just how hard celebrations can be when centered around or involving alcohol. But don’t let this take away from showing your true pride, including your sobriety. We hope that this Pride Month, you can celebrate in the way you want to while staying true to your boundaries!
